Incentive Büsum

Incentive with mudflats and sea

Büsum is versatile, original, unique - that's the slogan of the fishing town by the sea. With less than 5.000 inhabitants, you would think that the fox and the hare would say “goodnight” to each other here, but that is not the case. After Sankt-Peter-Ording and Westerland, it has been the third largest holiday resort in Schleswig-Holstein on the North Sea coast since the 19th century.
The place is only 7m above sea level and was an independent island until 1585. There were several fishing villages on the island at the time, but various storm surges and heavy winds caused the island to move closer and closer to the mainland. In 1585 the island became part of the mainland, and it still is today.

Büsum – mudflats n…sea

mud flat
Büsum is also known as a tour to the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. Every 12 hours the water disappears at low tide, exposing the mudflats. The Wadden Sea is an extraordinary and dynamic landscape; nowhere in the world does a more unique landscape develop under the influence of the tides. The Wadden Sea has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 and stretches over 500km along the German and Dutch coasts. It provides a habitat for more than 10.000 plant and animal species. Some of them can only be found here. Why not take part in the Büsum Wadden Run with music together with the Watt President? Here you can dance in the middle of the mudflats and challenge everyone's strength in activities such as the egg race or tug of war. Once everyone has arrived at the water's edge together, you will receive your baptism from the Watt President and are therefore (un)officially Büsumer Watt Runner.

Büsumer crabs
North Sea prawns were still the poor man's food, but today sand prawns, or as they say in the North Sea "crabs", are a local delicacy that delights the whole country. At the end of the 19th century, crab fishing in Büsum was one of the town's main sources of income, but today it is more of a part of history. But even today you can still take one of the shrimp boats out of Büsum to catch the sea creatures. Then, of course, you can do the puling with your own hands. Then off to the rolls and enjoy your meal.

Sustainable Büsum
The city has had the slogan “Büsum – active and sustainable” since 2018. The place tries to create awareness and a connection for all visitors through consciously experiencing nature and culture. Nature-related hikes or bike tours are now part of everyday life here. With the Wadden Sea right outside the door, in Büsum you become clearly aware of the importance of each individual's responsibility for nature. Regional products and productions are supported by the federal state. For example, the Büsum dike flags are upcycled into beanbags on site, giving them a second life. Not only sustainability is very important here, but also social responsibility towards all visitors. Büsum's attractions and many accommodations are barrier-free and can therefore be visited by many holidaymakers.

So why an incentive trip to Büsum?
North Sea at its best. An incentive trip to Büsum slows you and your team down. You can enjoy nature and the tides and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nature and culture in the same place give the team new strength and opportunities to grow together. Visit the UNECO World Heritage Site and walk around barefoot in the mudflats. Let the cool breeze blow around your nose and all your problems and obstacles won't seem so complicated anymore.
