Cologne is a 2.000-year-old city on the Rhine and the cultural center of its region. The city's landmark is the Gothic cathedral. It is visible from all sides when you enter the city. Cologne has been the seat of the Archdiocese of Cologne since the Middle Ages. Cologne is a very important location for chemistry and the automotive industry. Cologne is best known for its street carnival. The fifth season attracts millions of visitors to the metropolis and the surrounding area. 

The carnival
The carnival in Cologne has a long tradition. Since the Middle Ages, it has been a tradition in Cologne to celebrate the winter expulsions and a lavish festival on the eve of Easter Lent. The carnival session or the fifth season will officially be on November 11.11th. opened at 11:11 a.m. on Cologne's Alter Markt by the Cologne Dreigestirn. The session ends at the beginning of Lent before Easter and culminates in the Rose Monday procession. On Wednesday night, the Nubbel is burned in the city's Veedeln - a straw doll that heralds the end of the carnival season. The street carnival is very well known and popular in Cologne. In the various parts of the city, the Jecken celebrate in the bars and on the streets. The Cologne Schull and Veedelszöch take place on Carnival Sunday. There are always awards for the best walking and cart groups.
