The landscape on the Lower Rhine
One of the most scenic parts of the Lower Rhine is the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park, which extends along the open German-Dutch border over an area of 435 square kilometers. With its natural beauty, varied landscape and variety of animals and plants, the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park is a particularly popular destination for tourists.
It never gets boring: forests, open meadows, pastures and arable areas, punctuated by numerous smaller streams, rivers, moors and lakes, form an ideal recreational landscape. Designated hiking trails make the discovery tour perfect. There are also nine certified and partly cross-border premium hiking trails that enchant with their different characteristic features. The routes are between six and almost 19 km long and lead through forests and heath moors, swampy landscapes, streams and floodplain landscapes as well as past rivers, lakes and historical buildings such as mills, castles and manor houses.
