bottlefish.upcycling: glasses made from bottles

Used bottles become drinking glasses, lanterns, carafes and vases in Rostock. Each piece is cut, ground and finished in the kiln. For your event we have them made as a guest gift, as table decoration or as a special edition with your name.

The workshop in Rostock

bottlefish.upcycling is the glass workshop of Reiner Brand in Rostock. Used bottles become drinking glasses, tumblers, carafes, lanterns, vases, lampshades and soap dispensers there. The bottles come from restaurants, for example a wine bar in Warnemünde, from the holiday home Haus am Schilf on the Darß peninsula or from breweries. Every piece is handmade, and every piece looks a little different.

The pieces are made to order for events, matched to your occasion, your number of guests and your brand. There is no online shop any more, planning runs through adebar.

Photos from events on Instagram

Reiner Brand shows how the glasses look on laid tables, at bars and at events on Instagram at bottlefish.upcycling (opens in a new tab). New pieces appear there before they are in our range.

How a bottle becomes a glass

  • Cutting: The bottle is cut mechanically at the right height.
  • Grinding and polishing: The cut edge is wet-ground and polished with diamond discs.
  • Annealing: In the kiln the glass releases its tension. It often gives slightly, so no two glasses are the same.
  • Fire polishing: Finally the rim is fire-polished with a gas burner so it is smooth and pleasant to drink from.

For your event

  • Guest gift and giveaway

A glass made from a bottle tells a story, and it stays on your guests' shelves. As a thank-you after the conference, as a present for an anniversary or as a Christmas greeting to clients.

  • Table decoration and lanterns

Lanterns and vases made from bottles suit summer parties, dinners and festivals. After the event your guests take the pieces home, or they move on to the next decoration.

  • Special edition with your name

An edition from the bottles of your house brand, a series with your name or a set for your hotel: we agree bottle type, quantity and schedule with the workshop and deliver on time.

Workshop with pre-made glasses

Cutting and fire polishing stay in the workshop, they are too elaborate for a team event. If your team wants to get hands-on, we have the glasses pre-made and your team decorates them further or plants small gardens in bottles in the bottle garden workshop. More ideas with fruit crates, pallets and bottles are in the upcycling team event. From 10 people, two to four hours, anywhere in Germany.

How the glasses get to your event

Tell us what you need the pieces for, how many guests are coming and whether a particular bottle or your name should be on them. We agree bottle type, quantity and schedule with the workshop, have the pieces made and deliver on time. Handwork needs lead time, so please ask a few weeks before the event.

What are the bottlefish.upcycling glasses made from?
From used glass bottles: wine bottles from restaurants in Warnemünde and from the holiday home Haus am Schilf in Wieck on the Darß peninsula, green beer bottles from Bohemian breweries, Corona and Desperados bottles, or gin bottles for soap dispensers. Each bottle is cut mechanically, wet-ground and polished with diamond discs, annealed in the kiln and fire-polished at the rim with a gas burner.
Are all the glasses identical?
No, and that is intended. Because different bottles are used and the glass almost always gives a little in the kiln, every piece is unique. A drinking glass is about 13 cm tall, 6.6 to 8 cm in diameter and holds around 0.3 litres.
Can I order a series with our company name?
Yes. For events we make series by arrangement, for example from the bottles of your house brand or as an edition with your name. We agree quantity, bottle type and schedule together. Please ask early, handwork needs lead time.
Can we make the glasses ourselves at our corporate event?
Cutting, grinding and fire polishing are too elaborate for a workshop and stay in the glass workshop. We have the glasses pre-made, and your team decorates them further at the event or plants small gardens in bottles in the bottle garden workshop. Both formats work from 10 people and last two to four hours.

What our clients say

  • Once again I really enjoyed working with you and, in the end, putting on this magnificent party together. We received so much positive feedback! It was truly a smash hit!
Michaela Barkowsky & Susanne OttoSchülke & Mayr GmbHTranslated from German
  • Many thanks for the superb organisation of the iPad Challenge during our summer conference in Warnemünde. All our colleagues took part with great enthusiasm.
    Yasemin AlLETI PharmaTranslated from German
  • adebar organised a culinary city tour in Rostock for our annual management conference. The tour went smoothly, and our guide was incredibly likeable and informative. Although we only mentioned our wish for a Schwedeneisbecher (a local ice cream sundae) at short notice, this stop was built into the tour. That shows how spontaneous, individual and client-focused adebar is.
