What do the poet Maxim Gorky, the director Ernst Lubitsch and the boxer Max Schmeling have in common? They all loved Bad Saarow and came here to recover. It all began with a sanatorium in 1911. Three years later the mud baths opened, and the town became a first-class spa resort. Today Bad Saarow is both modern and steeped in history, a small paradise in the heart of Brandenburg.

Bad Saarow and its traditions

    By car, you can reach Bad Saarow quickly via the A12 motorway. By train, too, the town on the large Lake Scharmützel is just under an hour from Berlin. Berlin-Schönefeld Airport is only about 50 kilometres away. From the centrally located Bad Saarow station, you can walk or cycle to your accommodation.

    The natural mud is officially recognised as a local spa remedy and is rich in humic acids, minerals and oestrogen-containing substances. After use, the mud is returned to where it was extracted so that the moor meadows can regenerate. The guidelines prescribe five years of recovery there. The SaarowTherme only reuses the spent mud after around twelve years.
