At a glance

Come with us to Riga. The capital of Latvia lies on the banks of the Daugava. Here, medieval splendour stands right next to modern architecture.

Riga's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Different architectural styles meet here, with plenty of cultural treasures in between. Riga is also known for its lively cultural scene and excellent museums. Latvian tradition, Nordic influences and a touch of Russian history come together to form a mosaic of cultures.

The Baltic gem

Latvia's capital is easy to explore on foot. History, culture and nature are close together. Wander through the lanes of the old town or stroll along the promenade by the Daugava.

  • Old town

In the old town, Gothic, baroque and art nouveau buildings stand side by side. Narrow lanes, cosy cafés and impressive churches invite you to browse and linger.

  • Parks and green spaces

Riga has plenty of green spaces. The city park has a small pond, and from Bastejkalns hill you look out over the city. Mežaparks is a large forest park. All three are peaceful places in the middle of the city.

  • Latvian cooking

Latvian cooking relies on regional and seasonal ingredients. Many restaurants in Riga deliberately cook in the traditional way. Try potato pancakes, smoked fish and rye bread.

  • What makes Riga interesting for groups

In Riga, Nordic flair meets Eastern European history. Its lanes, its sights and its lively atmosphere make the city a special destination. Even if you've been before, you'll find something new next time.
