At a glance

Szczecin (German: Stettin) is a Polish city with an unusual history. Despite all the upheavals of war, the old Hanseatic city has kept its charm. Water is everywhere. Szczecin has one of the largest seaports on the Baltic Sea, and several river islands lie between the arms of the Oder within the city limits.

Your group can look forward to the lagoon, the Chrobry Embankment and the Philharmonic. Then there is Szczecin's "Venice" and an underground labyrinth of tunnels.

The city on the Oder is just 143 km from Berlin and is Poland's seventh-largest city. As an up-and-coming European metropolitan region, it is well suited to incentives, conferences and events. For now, it is still a real insider tip.

Szczecin, the insider tip between the Oder and the Baltic Sea

  • Getting there and getting around

The train is the best way to get from Berlin to Szczecin main station. The fastest connections take just 2 hours and 13 minutes with one change. Szczecin is also easy to reach by coach, and there are now plenty of connections, especially from Berlin.

Local public transport is very good, with most lines running every ten minutes. Szczecin lies on both sides of the Oder, but the centre is easy to explore on foot.

  • Activities

As well as the sights, the city's location offers plenty of nature. Lots of excursion boats leave from the harbour. On a kayak tour on the Oder, you see Szczecin's most beautiful spots from the water.

In the Puszcza Bukowa nature reserve, many cycle routes lead through the forest, and you can watch rare bird species along the way. The most popular destination in the reserve is Emerald Lake with its bright green water. Mount Bukowiec is also worth climbing with the whole team.

  • The Golden Route

The Golden Route (opens in a new tab) starts at the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle. It leads across Plac Żołnierza Polskiego, Aleja Papieża Jana Pawła II and Plac Grunwaldzki, through the Jasne Błonia green space and Kasprowicz Park. It then passes Lake Rusałka and runs through Las Arkoński (Arkona Forest) to Lake Głębokie on the north-western edge of the city. The whole route has comfortable cycle paths and bike parking, and signs bearing the city's coat of arms show the way.

  • Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic

The Philharmonic (Filharmonia im. Mieczysława Karłowicza) opened in 2014 and is a highlight of contemporary architecture. It was designed by the Spanish-Italian architects Barozzi Veiga. With its white façades, sharp edges and tall pointed roofs, it is reminiscent of satin curtains or folded paper planes.

The building received the Eurobuild Award as Europe's most beautiful cultural building. It also won the Mies van der Rohe Award, the most prestigious European prize for architecture.

  • What Szczecin offers your team

For guests from Berlin or from the Baltic coast, Szczecin makes a good day trip. But a weekend in Poland's seventh-largest city is just as worthwhile. There are plenty of activities and lovely hotels, and so everything your incentive trip needs.
