Raft building is a team event with a sense of adventure. Your team really gets stuck in. Everyone is needed from the planning and construction stage onwards, because at the end a workable idea has to float.
There are no limits to creativity. All the groups receive the same building materials. These can be unusual at times: there have already been rafts made from beer tables and benches.
Each group builds a raft that can carry them, against the clock. Then its seaworthiness is put to the test. Volunteers, step forward!
After that, all the teams line up on the shore for the challenge. Against the clock, it is once round a buoy in the water. If you like, you can race as a relay, and then every team member has to steer the raft once. Grab a paddle and off you go.
Raft building team event: what you will experience
Using simple materials, your team builds a raft that floats and races round a buoy. With any luck, everyone makes it back to dry land too.
Here, teamwork quite literally keeps you afloat. Build it first, then trust it! That strengthens the sense of togetherness, and it is great fun too.

Raft building teaches your team to work well together with limited resources. At the end there should be a raft that actually works. That fosters collegiality and cooperation. It also trains creative problem solving and joint decision-making.
Under time pressure, leadership qualities and the ability to work as a team come to the fore. Everyone immediately notices how important clear agreements and good planning are. From the first sketch to the finished raft, trust in the group grows. Everyone brings their strengths to the table and develops them further.
The result is tangible. As soon as the raft is in the water, everyone can see how well the team has worked together. Successes like this bring people closer and add variety to everyday office life.
What remains is a stronger team that tackles its work tasks together. adebar plans every raft building team event to match your company's goals, your corporate culture and your team dynamics. With our many years of experience in event management, we make sure it is fun and noticeably strengthens the team. Our event planners take care of every detail, from setting up the location to the materials and the running of the event.
How long does it take to build a raft?
That depends on the design and the group dynamics. On average, you can expect 2 to 3 hours. What matters is how well the team coordinates and agrees on a way of building.
If you have more time, you can extend the event. Then it is less about speed and competition and more about the shared experience. Longer formats leave room for the finer points of construction.
Is the shared goal more important to you than the competition? Then take time for reflection, joint planning and a sturdy construction. That is what the team gets the most out of.
Can the raft building team event take place in bad weather?
Yes. Raft building is an outdoor event, and sunshine does make it nicer. But with good planning and a little flexibility, it also works when the weather is less kind.
Everyone's safety always comes first. In strong winds, especially offshore winds, or when a thunderstorm is brewing, we do not launch the rafts. An offshore wind could drive them too far out. That puts both materials and people at risk. On open water there is also a risk of lightning during a thunderstorm.
In such cases we move the event to a safe place. There your team carries on building the raft. Instead of the voyage, there are dry tests or a careful inspection and assessment on land.
The most important part remains: planning, building and finding solutions together. The team building character is not lost.
How much does the team building cost?
The costs depend on the group size and any additional services you would like. We will prepare a cost estimate for your raft building event. It covers materials, qualified instruction, safety equipment and catering if required.
The best thing is to send us an enquiry directly. You will then receive a quote that matches the scope and your requirements. We factor in special requests such as further team building elements or special event features.
adebar prices competitively and transparently. You can see clearly what you are getting.
What should I definitely pack for the raft building event?
There are a few things you should definitely bring along:
1. Comfortable clothing: you should be able to move freely, and it is fine if it gets wet. Performance clothing suited to the weather is a good idea, as you will be working by the water.
2. A change of clothes: there is a good chance you will get wet while building the raft. Dry clothes to change into are therefore a sensible idea.
3. Weatherproof jacket: even in sunshine it can be chilly on the water. A wind and water-resistant jacket helps.
4. Sun cream and a hat: they protect against sunburn and sunstroke, especially on hot days.
5. Sturdy footwear: often forgotten and important for safety. Your shoes may get wet and should give you a good grip.
6. Good humour and team spirit: most important of all is the desire to pull together.
The adebar team takes care of the building materials. With this packing list you are well prepared.
On request we can brand jackets, gloves, beanies, baseball caps and more with your company logo. That way your team also presents itself as one unit, and the memory of the day lives on.
How many people can take part in the team event?
The group size is flexible. We plan the raft building event for small teams of 10 or more just as well as for large groups of over 100 participants.
In small teams, everyone works closely together. Each person is actively involved and makes a noticeable contribution to the result. With larger groups, several teams each build a raft. That creates healthy competition and strengthens collaboration across the whole company.
adebar makes sure everyone is well looked after, even with many participants. However large the group, everyone should experience the event as something that brings them together, and team spirit should benefit from it for a long time.
What your team put together for GECKO's 33rd birthday was amazing! The venue was simply fantastic, every single detail was lovingly designed, and working with you was so relaxed that we had a great deal of fun.

For our Chapter Summit 2021, adebar organised and ran the “raft building” event. In the end there were around 60 adults and children. The adebar team adapted wonderfully to this challenge, and the event was a complete success.
