Lüneburg between city and countryside

  • Old town

    Pastel-coloured and red brick houses take you back to the Middle Ages. You walk through cobbled lanes lined with half-timbered houses on both sides. Particularly impressive are the town fortifications that once protected Lüneburg and the town hall on the central market square.

    Lüneburg was once the centre of salt production. Numerous museums and historic sites tell that story. At the German Salt Museum you'll learn how important this "white gold" once was. The limestone mine shows you the world underground.
