At a glance

Bremerhaven lives from its port. Container ships dock here, the air smells of the North Sea, and some of the most unusual buildings in Northern Germany line the Weser. At the German Emigration Center (Deutsches Auswandererhaus), your group follows in the footsteps of people who set off for the New World from these very quays.

At the same time, the city is working on the future. Research institutions focus on the sea and on wind energy. For your group, that means history in the morning, research in the afternoon and fish right by the water in the evening.

Bremerhaven, the port city on the North Sea

Bremerhaven combines maritime history with research and coastal scenery. As one of Europe's largest port cities, it is where culture, science and business meet.

  • Maritime history

The city grew up with seafaring. The German Emigration Center tells the stories of the people who once went on board here, and that moves even groups who rarely go to museums. At the German Maritime Museum (Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum) you can learn more about the history of maritime trade.

One highlight is the Klimahaus. There you travel once around the world along the 8th degree of longitude and experience the Earth's climate zones one after another.

  • City of the future

Bremerhaven is a leading player in marine research. The Alfred Wegener Institute, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems and other renowned institutions are based here. The wind energy industry also has a strong presence.

  • Coast, harbour and good food

The Weser promenade is lovely for a walk. In the fishing port you can enjoy fresh fish in cosy restaurants, and a harbour cruise lets you see the port at work up close. If you want to go shopping, head to the Havenwelten with the Mediterraneo shopping centre. The Schaufenster Fischereihafen tempts you with lots of restaurants and bars.

  • What makes Bremerhaven exciting for your group

Emigration history, hands-on research and North Sea air are all close together here. Your group experiences a port city where real work gets done.

What our clients say

  • Both in the evening and again this morning, people were still talking about how lovely the beach Olympics were. The stations looked easy at first glance, but some of them were quite a challenge. That went down really well!
