Dragon boat racing: ready, steady, go!

Dragon boating is a team event on the water that boosts team spirit and fits into almost any supporting programme. Up to 20 paddlers drive the boats, with their dragon's head and tail, forward in rhythm. The helmsman keeps the sleek boat on course. A drummer sets the pace and drives the team on.

You only really pick up speed when everyone paddles in sync. Fun always comes first. You can spot a well-drilled team straight away: it paddles exactly as fast as the drummer sets the beat.

This team event is becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. Your team improves communication and collaboration almost without noticing. The competitive spirit wakes up, and the shared memories bring everyone closer.

What you will experience: team spirit and fun on the water

In dragon boat racing, the focus is on personal contact between the teams and the joy of the sport. Lone fighters soon realise that they will not get far on their own. You only reach the finish together, in time, with willpower and stamina.

You challenge and motivate each other. Every paddle stroke strengthens team spirit. Aching muscles and a grin on your face come free of charge.

The good mood of training together lasts. Everyone comes out of the race with fresh motivation. The team grows closer, and sometimes new friendships even form.

What is a dragon boat team event and how does it support team building?
At a dragon boat team event, teams race against each other in long boats decorated with a dragon's head and tail. Everyone has to paddle together in time. That strengthens communication, coordination and cohesion in the group. Team members quickly realise that they can only move forward as a unit through collaboration and mutual support.
How long does a dragon boat team event last?
A dragon boat team event usually lasts two to four hours. That depends on the number of teams and the supporting programme you choose. This time covers an introduction, training on the water and the races. So there is plenty of opportunity to work as a team, challenge each other and enjoy the fun.
Do participants need any previous experience or a certain level of fitness?
No, you do not need any special previous experience. The event is suitable for every fitness level, because collaboration is at its heart. An experienced helmsman guides the group and supports it throughout the event. All that matters is a willingness to engage with the team and pull together.
What should participants bring to the dragon boat team event?
Bring comfortable sportswear and weatherproof clothing, as the event takes place outdoors. Remember swimwear, a towel and, on sunny days, sun cream. Snacks and water are important too. If you wish, we can organise catering and snacks for your dragon boat team event.
Is the dragon boat race also suitable for larger groups?
Yes, the dragon boat team event is very well suited to larger groups. As a rule, up to 20 people paddle in one boat, and several boats can take part in the races at the same time. That makes it a good fit for company outings, training days or big celebrations with team building at their centre. When several teams compete against each other, the competition and fun factor rise.
Where does the dragon boat team event take place?
Most dragon boat team events take place on a lake or river. We offer various locations that are well suited to it. We will be happy to tell you about suitable options near you.
What safety precautions are there during the event?
The safety of participants is our top priority. All dragon boats can be equipped with life jackets. Our experienced helmsmen accompany the teams throughout the event. Before the start, everyone receives a safety briefing. All participants must be able to swim.
Can the dragon boat team event take place in bad weather?
We generally paddle in light rain, as that is part of the adventure. In extreme weather such as thunderstorms, we assess the safety of the participants. We then decide together whether to postpone the event.
How many people can take part in a dragon boat team event?
Up to 20 people paddle in a standard dragon boat. Depending on the group size, we organise several boats so that larger teams can also take part in a race.
How much does a dragon boat team event cost?
The costs depend on the group size, the location and the services booked. We will be happy to put together an individual quote to suit your wishes.
Can the event be tailored to our needs?
Yes! We adapt the team event, for example with themed races, team building exercises or a special supporting programme. Tell us what you would like, and we will plan the event accordingly.
Can you take photos or videos during the event?
Yes, and it is very popular. Participants are welcome to take photos or videos to capture the exciting moments. If you wish, professional photographers can also document the event.
