Mecklenburg calls itself the land of more than 1,000 lakes. To be precise, there are 1,117 natural lakes. Right in the middle lies Waren on the Müritz, Germany's largest inland lake, surrounded by ancient forests, moors, meadows and fields.

The old town, with its narrow lanes and historic monuments, is made for strolling. In the evening, people sit in one of the many pubs at the town harbour or on the lakeside promenade.

A boat trip across the connected lakes takes you right through Müritz National Park. White-tailed eagles and ospreys circle above the water, and in autumn thousands of cranes pass through. Rare plants grow in this large forest national park. If you plan an incentive here, you get nature first-hand, plus sport and time to breathe.

Getting to know Waren (Müritz)

  • The town on the little sea

    Waren lies on the Müritz, Germany's largest inland lake. That is why it is affectionately known as the "town on the little sea". All around it stretches the Mecklenburg Lake District. Some lakes are small and barely known, others are large and easy to access, and almost all of them are suitable for activities on the water.

  • Müritzeum

    The "House of 1000 Lakes" is a museum and aquarium in one. It shows vividly which animals and plants live in the Mecklenburg Lake District. It is a good choice when it rains, but just as good when the sun is out.

  • Müritz National Park

    Covering 322 square kilometres, it is Germany's largest national park on land. On top of that there are more than 100 lakes, each larger than 10,000 square metres. Since it was founded in 1990, the park has attracted people who love paddling, hiking or cycling. Special tours with experts on the theme "learning from and living with the forest" take your team out of the daily office routine for a few hours.
