At a glance

Kiel is Germany's northernmost major city and an important port on the Baltic Sea. The city wraps around the Kiel Fjord like a horseshoe, and almost everything here revolves around that water. Kiel is known internationally for Kiel Week, the world's largest sailing event. And for THW Kiel, its highly successful handball team.

Water is Kiel's element. The world capital of sailing hosted the Olympic sailing competitions in 1936 and 1972. Add to that a varied cultural scene with theatre, opera, botanical gardens and museums. People from all around the Baltic and Scandinavia appreciate it.

These are great conditions for team building and active programmes. The adebar team will be glad to plan your team event in Kiel with you.

Getting to know Kiel

  • Getting there

Kiel is only 85 km from Hamburg's international airport. The "Kielius" airport bus takes you from one port city to the other in around 50 minutes. Kiel's main station is right in the city centre, with the central bus station next door. From here you can reach your venue in a few minutes.

Some destinations can also be reached by ferry. That's usually quicker and turns the journey itself into a small highlight.

  • Kiel Week

Kiel Week is the Oktoberfest of the north. This annual regatta has been held since the 19th century and is considered one of the biggest sailing events in the world. Around the sport there are international artists, specialities from all over the world and plenty of activities on land and on the water.

Around three million people visit the festival every year. It always takes place in the last full week of June.

  • The fish roll

When it comes to favourite foods in the north, the fish roll is way out in front. At Kiel's fish market the fish is processed, smoked depending on the variety and sold at weekly markets and along the Kiellinie promenade. Try one on a walk along the fjord. But watch out: the gulls love fish rolls just as much as the locals do.

  • Why Kiel

In Kiel there's no getting away from the harbour, and that's a good thing. The Kiel Fjord offers countless possibilities for incentives of every kind, at any time of year. Would you prefer an active incentive or a more relaxed one? We at adebar will find the right programme, one you'll remember for a long time.
