At a glance

Your incentive trip takes you to the Queen of the Hanseatic League. Lübeck lies on the lower Trave in the north of Germany. This was the first place where an entire old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with 1,800 listed buildings. Follow in the footsteps of Lübeck's Nobel laureates Günter Grass, Thomas Mann and Willy Brandt.

Brick buildings, narrow lanes and the harbour shape the cityscape. The Baltic Sea is close, and with it plenty of places to get out into nature. The city's history lives on in its houses, passageways and hidden courtyards. If you love the Middle Ages, you can't miss the Holstentor and the Burgtor, St Mary's Church and the cathedral.

Lübeck is famous around the world for its marzipan and its skyline of seven spires. Through the Holstentor you enter the historic old town island. Its winding courtyards are best explored on foot in small groups, which makes it ideal for an incentive trip or a team building event.

Getting to know Lübeck

  • Where is Lübeck?

Lübeck is in Schleswig-Holstein, just before the border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Hamburg, with the nearest airport, is about an hour away by car. The beach and the sea are never far, because the city lies right on the Baltic Sea. The Trave is navigable and flows into the sea in the district of Travemünde, about 17 kilometres from the old town.

  • The old town

Most visitors head for the city centre. It is both the oldest district and the smallest by area. The old town sits on an oval island, enclosed by the Stadt-Trave to the west and the Kanal-Trave to the east. Three quarters of its buildings survived the Second World War. In 1987 the old town was declared a World Heritage Site.

  • The seven spires

Lübeck is also known as the city of seven spires. The old town skyline is defined by St James' Church, St Mary's Church with its two west towers, St Peter's Church, St Giles' Church and the cathedral, which also has two west towers. They have towered over the city for centuries. You can see them far across the surrounding countryside, all the way into Holstein and Mecklenburg.

  • Niederegger marzipan

Niederegger was founded in 1806. For more than two centuries Café Niederegger, right in the heart of the Hanseatic city, has been one of Lübeck's landmarks. According to the company, up to 30,000 kg of marzipan are produced every day.

The range includes around 300 specialities. Besides marzipan there are nougat, pralines, truffles, Baumkuchen (layered cake), stollen and biscuits. The products are sold in more than 40 countries.

  • Why an incentive in Lübeck?

In Lübeck you can plan activities on land and on the water. Ancient history and modern city life sit side by side. That means every group and every age finds the right programme. We at adebar make sure your guests will be talking about this trip for a long time.

  • The fact that the equipment van was broken into and all the kit for the event was stolen is force majeure. No event runs exactly to plan. Improvisation is everything, and at our event adebar GmbH had to master this supreme discipline within 3 hours. Thank you so much for this incredible troubleshooting!
