At a glance

Warnemünde, Travemünde, Swinemünde: it is easy to get them mixed up. Swinemünde is the German name for Świnoujście, and a simple rule of thumb helps. All three lie on the Baltic coast, and each is suited in its own way to an incentive by the water. Like Travemünde, Świnoujście is split in two. One part lies on the island of Usedom, the other on the island of Wolin.

The Polish port town is growing, and not only in terms of independent travellers. It has a long promenade with a wide sandy beach and first-class hotels with modern conference rooms. Add to that a varied cuisine. Świnoujście has everything you need for incentives, team building and customer events.

Świnoujście on the German-Polish border

  • The lively port town

Świnoujście has 40,000 inhabitants and is the only "proper" town on Usedom. That makes it a modern contrast to the historic seaside resort architecture of the island's other towns. Only the former spa quarters, with their restored resort villas, recall the earlier days of the Baltic seaside resort. They stand right on the promenade next to futuristic new hotels.

  • Fortresses

The former Prussian fortress at the mouth of the Świna was built to protect the sea route from the Oder and Świna into the Baltic. It has its origins in the Swine redoubt from the Thirty Years' War.

Since June 2023, the Świna tunnel has been open, giving you access to all parts of the fortress. Alternatively, the town ferry takes foot passengers to the eastern side of the town. The Angel's Fort, called Fort Anioła in Poland, is said to resemble Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome.

  • A town on two islands

Most of Świnoujście lies on Usedom, the rest on Wolin, which is connected to the Polish mainland. Thanks to the Świna tunnel, the crossing takes only a few minutes, and there are no long waits for the ferry. That opens up plenty of options for your group: a day trip to the German side of Usedom or across to Wolin on the Polish Baltic coast.
